Images of TMV Colloidal Crystals

Freeze fracture of colloidal crystalline TMV (Wetter)

Thin section EM from colloidal crystal TMV.

CC of TMV viewed under crossed polars (Fraden)

All four images above are of colloidal crystalline TMV illuminated with white light. The TMV has a periodicity of 300 nm that acts like a diffraction grating for the white light. The samples are beautifully irridescent (Kreibig).
